A LOOK AT LONGWOOD & LANCER BASKETBALL
(in case you didn't already know)
Steal City Longwood’s defense isn’t just good. It’s great. The Lancers are relentless and lead the NATION in forcing turnovers. Kiki McIntyre is the head of the snake and leads the nation in steals. She’s also the program’s single-season record holder for steals and the Big South Defensive Player of the Year.
TEAM Effort A true team effort this season—eight players have led or tied for the team lead in scoring in a game, and three are averaging at least 10 points per game. Amor Harris leads the way with 11 points per game.
Coach Of The YearLongwood head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery was named the Big South Coach of the Year, the first Lancer women’s coach to earn the honor. Oh, and she has led the Lancers to a 20-win campaign, a high bar of excellence for any program.
A Culture of ExcellenceLongwood basketball teams have made three NCAA Tournament appearances in the last four years – an incredible feat few mid-major programs can boast. That’s because we’ve built our programs around long-term success, with investments made in coaching, facilities, and development, both in the classroom and on the court.
A Venerable Institution Longwood may be a new(er) star on the college basketball scene, but it’s one of America’s hundred-oldest colleges, with an idyllic campus and devoted alumni. Here’s everything you need to know about Longwood.
The Heart of Virginia Longwood’s home town, Farmville, may not be what you picture from the name. Instead, it’s a proud, charming and historic two-college town that has no doubt rallied to the Lancers this year.
