Aftab Khan is an Associate Professor of Special Education in the Department of Education and Counseling. He teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses related to the field of special education. For example, Psychoeducational Assessment, and Introductions to Autism Spectrum Disorder are a few of the many courses he enjoys teaching at Longwood. He also relishes the opportunity of teaching a pillar course at Longwood (i.e., Human Growth as a Function of Social, Political, and Economic Institutions). He has over 20 years of experience in the field of special education. This includes his experience teaching students at the university level, training professionals at the school level, consulting on autism spectrum disorder, and training parents in the community are a few of the many professional practices he has accomplished.

Before joining Longwood as an Assistant Professor in 2015, he lived for 15 years in Toronto, Canada, where he worked with individuals with exceptionalities in school settings, treatment centers, and also at residential facilities. He earned his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Developmental Psychology and Education at the University of Toronto, Canada, where he was also involved in a large research project on Wisdom Around the World. He is passionate about learning about individuals with exceptionalities, especially those diagnosed with autism. In his doctoral research, he studied high-functioning autism spectrum disorder. Before moving to Canada, he earned both a Master's and a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degrees in special education from the University of Karachi, Pakistan. He also taught for over five years as a lecturer of special education at the University of Karachi.

Aftab has published several research studies in national and international journals. He loves to present his scholarly work at state, national, and international conferences. He was invited as a keynote speaker at a couple of international conferences, where he also acted as a session chair for the scientific sessions. Aftab is also a member of the Editorial Board and Reviewer for several scholarly journals.

Aftab’s morning starts with eating three fruits. Throughout his life, he was passionate about several sports, including cricket and badminton. He won several trophies at the badminton tournaments in Karachi and Toronto. He also enjoys long driving.
